'Cultural Studies Seeks to Understand What Lies Beneath the Surface of Everyday Things'
Maxim Zhiganov has been exploring different aspects of sound for many years—first in relation to his native Perm and then on a broader, global scale. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, he talks about sound maps, the special issue of the journal Logos, and why it is important to make the familiar less clear and obvious.

At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

Разработка метода проектирования иммерсивной презентации изделий легкой промышленности в виртуальном пространстве

Костюмология. 2025. Т. 10. № 2.
Туханова В. Ю.

The article presents the method of developing the digital animated presentation of clothing. The features of the design stages of digital products of fashion industry are considered, taking into account the immersive effect. The author provides an overview of the current state of development of immersive technologies in the global context. Immersiveness is defined as immersion in technologically recreated, virtually simulated conditions. The aim of the research is to develop the design method for apparel industry in the virtual space. The article presents the results of work on the implementation of the developed method. The objective of the annual conferences at the Museum of Cosmonautics was to create the virtual reality that immerses users in the world of space fashion. In order to popularize space themes, celestial bodies were chosen as objects for digital fashion show. Experts noted that the immersing experience achieved awakens not only imagination, but also interest in real cosmonauts. The research results were obtained using a software package for creating three-dimensional graphics and animation CLO3D, Style3D, Blender, Cinema 4D, etc. The article shows that the introduction of immersing technologies in the fashion industry helps strengthen emotional connection with the audience. The development of the direction will become a new stage in the transformation of the presentation types in apparel industry. The global experience of implementing immersive technologies that combine the digital and physical worlds shows effectiveness in interacting with potential customers, as well as contributes to the innovative development of the industry.

Zhou J., Zhou X., Zaman N. et al., ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces 2026 Vol. 18 No. 36 P. 49359–49369
Blue QLEDs face a critical challenge in balancing high luminous efficiency with operational stability, primarily due to uncontrolled electron injection and interfacial trap-assisted recombination. Here, we present a facile aqueous ZnCl2 post-treatment strategy to engineer ZnMgO (ZMO) electron transport layers (ETLs). This approach leverages a synergistic mechanism of hydrolysis-induced recrystallization and chloride-mediated surface passivation to transform ...

Precursor coordination governs defect evolution and nonradiative recombination in wide-bandgap perovskites for monolithic tandem solar cells
Taye B. Z., Zhu J., Liu Z. et al., Materials Science and Engineering: R: Reports 2026 Vol. 171 Article 101262
Wide-bandgap (WBG) perovskites used in monolithic tandem solar cells are limited by nonradiative recombination losses and operational instability originating from defect formation during crystallization and their subsequent evolution under illumination. Here, we show that defect formation can be regulated at the precursor stage by coordination chemistry, instead of relying only on post-crystallization passivation. A fluorinated ...

Ekaterina G. Odintsova, Darya L. Gurina, Yury A. Budkov, Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects 2026 Vol. 736 Article 139693
The behavior of water under nanoscale confinement is crucial for numerous technologies; yet predicting its properties remains challenging due to the complex interplay of pore geometry and surface chemistry. While the influence of general hydrophilicity is recognized, the specific role of the flexibility of surface functional groups - a key molecular-scale feature - has remained underexplored. To address ...

Co-Passivation of Buried Interfaces in Perovskite Solar Cells with Sulfonate and Amine Salts
Taye B., Bi Z., Zhilenkov A. et al., The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters 2026 Vol. 17 No. 2 P. 685–690
Interfacial defects remain a key limitation of the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) and SCAPS-1D device simulations, we examine how sulfonate and primary amine salts can jointly passivate the SnO2/perovskite buried interface. The sulfonate group forms strong S–O–Sn bonds with surface Sn atoms, while the ammonium cation anchors ...
