During laboratory studies of many rock samples, it becomes necessary to develop an appropriate database. Adding new records and maintaining such databases is especially important when creating and updating mathematical and physical models describing hydrocarbon and ore deposits, gas storage facilities, engineering (in particular, transport, hydraulic, pipeline, etc.) structures, the development and operation of which is associated with the transformation of rocks and is critical in terms of its impact on the biosphere. The development of it can be divided into several subtasks: the development of a structure with defi nition of a logical model and elements, the defi nition of relationships and ways to ensure connectivity, the development and software implementation of a database management system. In addition to the mandatory conditions common to most databases (minimal redundancy, integrity, consistency, etc.), there are specifi c requirements related to the objects (entities) that the database operates with – rock samples, laboratory studies (experiments, destructive and non-destructive tests), and laboratory test results. The body of database is based on a relational model. The structure of the database is defi ned, which includes a «horizontal» level that allows you to correlate the sample with the measured characteristics and experiments, and a «vertical» level that allows you to track the history of manipulations with samples. One record in the sample database corresponds to one sample in the current state between irreversible impacts. After each irreversible impact, a new record is created. A database project has been created; examples of data extraction from the database for subsequent analysis are given.
