The study examines the interaction of city-forming enterprises with various counterparties both within the city and beyond. The main attention is paid to the number of each level, which allows us to assess the degree of integration of the enterprise into the local economy, its dependence on it and its impact on it. In the event of crisis situations associated with problems at the city-forming enterprise (production reduction, closure), its partners, especially those who are closely connected with it economically, may face serious difficulties. Therefore, those enterprises that have most of their business contacts within the city in the event of a collapse of the industry will cause significant damage to the entire economy of the single-industry town. For this study, data were collected on all medium-sized single-industry towns in Russia, networks of business connections were built, the distribution of the number of these connections by levels was assessed, and the most vulnerable single-industry towns were identified in terms of the rootedness of the city-forming enterprise in the local economy.
