The book presents a new approach to the philosophical analysis of literary classics: the interpretation of the works of M. Y. Lermontov, I. A. Goncharov and L. N. Tolstoy as myth-making based on F. Schelling 's philosophy of mythology. Myth–making is living knowledge (in S. L. Frank's terminology), which has great heuristic potential for the philosophy of nature and philosophical anthropology. Special attention is paid to the problems of the reality of myth-making, the anthropomorphism of mythological and scientific understanding of nature, the correlation of time and eternity, the mysteries of love and freedom, etc. The key thesis is the proximity of childhood and myth (the spiritual childhood of mankind), the philosophy of myth and the philosophy of childhood. Based on this thesis, the author provides an outline of historiosophy, which seeks the source of New European culture, its rise and tragedy in the separation from childishness and myth.The book is addressed to philosophers, literary critics, cultural historians, and anyone who loves the works of Lermontov, Goncharov, and Tolstoy.
