The article is devoted to substantiating the need to form a concept of civic identity development in Russia, analyzing pedagogical methods for improving the effectiveness of shaping the political consciousness of schoolchildren through education. From the analysis of the content of the concept of a political symbol, the authors proceed to the formulation of priority areas for the analysis of educational literature on social studies and provide the results of the examination of the content of textbooks on social studies JSC "Enlightenment".
