Immunity to Chaos: How Personal Resources Help Us Cope with the Challenges of a Turbulent World
International conflicts, crises and digital overload—the modern world puts our minds to the test every day. Traditional psychology often focuses on the consequences: anxiety, depression, and psychosomatic disorders. But what if we looked at the problem differently—through the lens of the resources that prevent us from breaking down? Psychological immunity is precisely this set of resources. Alena Zolotareva and her group, Psychological Immunity as a Resource for Positive Functioning, are developing an integrative model of this phenomenon, adapting diagnostic tools and preparing for large-scale empirical research. Why do psychologists need to collaborate with medical professionals, and how could their research transform preventive care in clinics and corporations?

How to Assess Students Knowledge in the Age of AI
A researcher at HSE University has proposed a flowchart to help lecturers decide how to assess students who use artificial intelligence. It shows where the use of AI should be restricted and where it can be incorporated into the learning process. The article has been published in IT Professional.

‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Liang Y., Zhang X., Wang Q. et al., ACS Applied Nano Materials 2026 Vol. 9 No. 32 P. 15224–15232
The development of high-light-yield scintillators based on perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) is hindered by their intrinsic instability and aggregation, which severely limits their long-term operational reliability and integration into polymeric matrices. Silica coating has been demonstrated as an effective strategy to enhance the stability of PQDs. However, achieving fast and uniform silica encapsulation on individual ...

Konstantin A. Ivanov, Alexey E. Zhukov, Eduard I. Moiseev et al., Journal of Applied Physics 2025 Vol. 138 No. 10 Article 103104
Microlasers supporting whispering gallery modes attract great interest because of their potential use in photonic integrated circuits: they have size just an order of magnitude larger than their emission wavelength and exhibit good thermal and dynamic properties. It is usually assumed that in disk microlasers a whispering gallery mode of the highest azimuthal order and ...

Solodovnik M., Balakirev S., Ivan S. Makhov et al., Applied Surface Science 2025 Vol. 700 Article 163211
Despite the rapid growth in the number of studies devoted to quantum dot (QD) formation on patterned substrates, segregation effects that have a significant impact on the properties of QD-based heterostructures remain largely unexplored. In this paper, we focus on the influence of segregation under different capping regimes on the optical properties of various InAs/GaAs nanostructures: QDs and ...

Simultaneous whispering gallery modes lasing (comblike structure) is observed in the wavelength range of 930–970 nm ...

A comprehensive numerical modelling of microcavity parameters for micropillar lasers with optical pumping was presented. The structure with a hybrid dielectric-semiconductor top mirror has a significantly higher calculated quality-factor (∼65000 for 5 μm pillar) due to better vertical mode confinement. The minimum laser threshold (∼370 μW for 5 μm pillar) coincided with a temperature of ...
