Russian Competition Policy Over Value Chains in Agricultural and Food Sectors

This brief overview of the enforcement practice of Russian competition law towards the agricultural and the food sector shows that the primary objective of enforcement was to protect and prevent suppliers from being harmed by the terms imposed by their contractual counterparties, particularly when the latter benefit from superior bargaining positions. All of the examples cited in this Chapter concerning the enforcement of Russian competition law in the agricultural and food sectors exhibit three specific features, all of which distinguish them from more traditional competition policies and render them closer to protectionist actions within the context of the value chain
