HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

'The Humanities Serve as a Conscience'
Maria Mizernaia studies Soviet literature and the history of book publishing. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, she discusses plans to publish a novel about besieged Leningrad, AI-provoked reflections on what it means to be human, and how novels can help satisfy our dopamine hunger.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Modern IoT and cyber-physical systems demand wireless or autonomous power sources that eliminate the need for frequent replacement or manual recharging. Consequently, the development of intelligent systems with self-sustaining energy sources becomes a pressing objective. This project focuses on investigating contemporary methods and creating a prototype for an intelligent device capable of wirelessly transmitting and ...

The growing popularity and use of the wireless Internet of Things and cyber-physical systems increase the demand for "green" technologies in the field of mobile telecommunications. To be completely wireless, such devices need an integrated RF energy harvesting system that ensures efficient recharging of the batteries and accumulators used in them. This article provides an ...

Membrane-integrated planar Schottky diodes for waveguide mm-wave detectors
Shurakov A., Belikov I., Anatoliy Prikhodko et al., СВЧ-техника и телекоммуникационные технологии, Россия 2021 No. 3 P. 34–34
We report on the technology of membrane-integrated planar Schottky diodes intended for use as part of waveguide mm-Wave detectors. The diode fabrication process mainly relies on selective etching of GaAs enabling the implementation of both a metallic suspended bridge terminated by a microscale Schottky contact to n-GaAs and a 140-200 μm thick SI-GaAs membrane underneath. ...

Ti/Au/n-GaAs planar Schottky diode with a moderately Si-doped matching sublayer
Shurakov A., Mikhalev P., Михайлов Д. М. et al., Microelectronic Engineering 2018 Vol. 195 P. 26–31
In this paper we report on the results of the study of the Ti/Au / n-GaAs planar Schottky diodes (PSD) intended for the wideband detection of terahertz radiation. The two types of the PSD devices were compared having either the dual n/n+ silicon dopant profle or the triple one with a moderately doped matching sublayer inserted. All the diodes ...

A Prikhodko, I Belikov, Mikhailov D. et al., Journal of Physics: Conference Series 2021 Vol. 2086 No. 1 Article 012063
We propose the design of a dual-pixel array of Schottky diodes. Each diode is fixed between the bow-tie antenna arms on top of a SI-GaAs membrane acting as a waveguide backshort for efficient coupling of the antenna to the feedline of high-directivity horn. The detector utilizes a single RF output line: microwave reflectometer is used ...

Shurakov A., Mikhailov D., Belikov I. et al., Journal of Physics: Conference Series 2020 Vol. 1695 No. 1 Article 012154
In this paper we report on the fabrication of a planar Schottky diode utilizing a Г-shaped anode suspended bridge. The bridge maintains transition between the top and bottom level planes of a 1.4 µm thick GaAs mesa. To implement the profile of a suspended bridge and inward tilt of a mesa wall adjacent to it, ...

The recent Wi-Fi HaLow technology focuses on adopting Wi-Fi for the needs of the Internet of Things. A key feature of Wi-Fi HaLow is the Restricted Access Window (RAW) mechanism that allows an access point to divide the sensors into groups and to assign each group to an exclusively reserved time interval where only the ...
