Магическая функция орнамента в ткачестве народа тхай Вьетнама
This paper presents various ideas and findings of the research project (grant of the Russian Fond for Humanitarian Sciences №14-24-09002) focused on comprehension of ornamental patterns of weaving by Thai people residing on the territory of Vietnam. Formation of the detailed inventory of ornamental motifs, their classification along with determination of their symbolic meaning and investigation of their social functions – all these contribute to a conclusion about spread usage of woven ornaments in the numerous rituals of Thai people. The study also proves the existence of links between semantics of ornaments and Thai’s mythology and folklore. Interrelation of ornamental images and folkloric texts is more explicit in the ritual practice; in this case both the ornament and the folkloric text acquire a magical function.
Our paper aims to analyze the magic function of the woven ornament in different social contexts.
