Societal problems represent both opportunities and challenges for private and public organizations. Issues such as poverty, climate change and inequality can be seen either as a burden or as a source for innovation. Multinational Corporations, Nonprofit Organizations (NGOs), Cooperatives and Social-Purpose Organizations (SPOs) have engaged in projects that can tackle some of these major societal issues. The paper explores existing discussion over controvercial social marketing concept and develops superior conceptualization of social innovation marketing concept based on pluralist research paradigm found in the phylosophy of social science literature.

The article investigates how systematically the Russian veterans’ organizations represent the concerns of their constituencies vis-à-vis the Russian state, the role of which has been constantly diminished in social provision. The concept of “brokers” is applied to understand and reveal the mechanisms of interaction with politicians and bureaucrats and the logic of communication. We build on the selected veterans’ organizations in two Russian regions: Karelia and St. Petersburg. It is clear that the veterans’ organizations operate in a restricted environment, but out analysis shows that their agency has mattered, largely due to the political connections and federalism in social policy.

The text is addressing three questions/challenges: Is it true that time for conservatism in Russia has come? And if it is, then – why? What is the algorithm of Russian historical path that makes Russian Conservatism so paradoxical? How could Russian Conservatism become an ideological base for the national development strategy? To properly meet these challenges Conservatism has to revise traditional scheme of modernizing reforms in Russia and try to implement social innovations generated within national socio-cultural context rather than imported from abroad. This approach (which could properly be called “ The Conservative Modernization”) provides a new framework for ‘organic’ relationships between population and statehood which opens positive prospects for completion of troublesome nation-building in post-Soviet Russia. Presumably the institutional driver of this conservative ideological shift could become “All-Russian People’s Front”.
