Non-Violent Salafism, the Arab Spring and Politics in Egypt
This paper seeks to shed light on the emergence and development of key groups of non-violent Salafism in Egypt. It also intends to reveal how they were affected by the Arab spring events. The focus on Salafi political parties, and particularly al-Nour party, is determined by their unexpected success at the parliamentary elections in 2012 and their willingness to repeat it in the upcoming parliamentary elections. In addition, this study aims to reveal reasons of such a success of the Salafis and to investigate their subsequent developments on a political arena.
