Особенности функционирования арабских имен собственных в современном мальтийском языке на примере ISM(un) и KuNYat(un)
Turoyo is a Neo-Aramaic language whose home is in the Tur Abdin region, in the south-east of contemporary Turkey. Contacts of local Aramaic varie- ties with Arabic started no later than around 650 AD. As a result, Turoyo has numerous Arabic borrowings. In the paper, we discuss the etymology of !ve Turoyo verbs: ʕbd ‘to worship’, ʕly ‘to rise up’, lbk ‘to deal with’, qfy ‘to !nd’, ʕšf ‘to weed out.’ As the reader is going to see, these !ve cases are spe- cial in more than one way and pregnant with possibilities for further re- search into the language contact in Anatolia. The data used in the paper have been taken from the Verb Glossary of Turoyo in progress, on which the present writers have been working since 2011. See FURMAN and LOESOV 2015 for the description of the project, in- cluding the corpus and the entry organization. The textual data cited in the paper are all taken verbatim from the Glossary, including our way to present individual tense-aspect forms in “boxes”. All German glosses and transla- tions below have been borrowed from the published !eld corpus, all of which is due to German scholars. For the references to text sources and other abbreviations used in the study, see a list at the end of the paper. For the moment, the Glossary includes around two thousand verbal roots. According to a preliminary etymological analysis, some six hundred roots are of Aramaic origin, some seven hundred roots are of Arabic origin, about one hundred roots are of Kurdish origin, and twenty seven roots are of Turkish origin. There are about two hundred and !fty roots of yet un- known provenance.
The article in question illuminates important Arabic linguistics and Comparative linguistics issues of placement of Arabic dialects versus Arabic language system as a whole, which lives transition stage from dualism (diglossia) to trilingualia. Syrian common dialect in the form of Damascus koine dialectos is taken as an example for dissemenation of lexical units typical for Damascus populace in common conversation form sans written fixation. Explicit description of Arabic conversant Idioms as parts of linguistic research parlance collaborates in full with aims of Arabic linguistics tradition in theoretical and application fields and effectively leads trainees along the road of communication studies.
The paper deals with several results of role-playing game (RPG) method introduced into the course - "Practicing Economic Translation" in Arabic in the framework of academic programme of "BA in Asian and African Studies" as being taught at the School of Asian Studies, HSE. RPG here is analyzed as an innovative element of skill quality control and a means of teaching of professional abilities. This paper carries additional interest, as the Author instructs in "Economic translation" same groups where he teaches theoretical courses on “Economies of countries on MENA” and “Business models in the countries of MENA” thus providing a part of complete cycle of language backed professional education.
The article examines specific features of the African American anthroponymic system in terms of the category of iden- tity and the anthropocentric approach to language studies.
Personal names of African Americans represent the social status and mentality of the name giver. The name giver chooses a name according to his or her fundamental beliefs and values with the help of identity expression.
Anthropocentrism is reflected in the lexicon of any language in a specific way, which is most vividly apparent in the naming process. The paper shows that the anthroponymic system of a language is influenced by the values and motives of its creators. The anthroponymic approach to language studies fosters not only language development, but the study of human capacity for linguistic creativity. Personal names accumulate historical, linguistic, social and ethnoc- ultural experience of an ethnic group or a nation.
The author analyzes specific features of African American anthroponyms, which enrich the national and cultural va- riety of the U.S. onomastic system.
The article offers a comparative analysis of teaching and learning of Basic course in Arabic language within "Oriental and African studies” Academic Bachelor Programme in the National Research University "Higher School of Economics" with the use of learning information environment (Learning Management System, LMS) as a remote support of discipline and without its use.
LMS is a dynamic learning management system used in the Blended Learning Programmes (combining face-to-face training with remote support of the disciplines). Accumulated results of the use of LMS for the period of two years in teaching of the course allowed the author to make an informed conclusion that a blended form of teaching Arabic language at the University is more effective compared to the traditional form, which is confirmed by the analysis of the course general and aspectisized results with statistical data, as cited in the article. The author describes the benefits of using an LMS from the point of view of the possibilities for differentiated flexible assessment system, as well as increase in self-discipline and development of self-management skills of students, efficiency and effectiveness of feedback in the course of "teacher-student" interactions when performing tasks for self-training, development, motivation of students studying in the discipline, enhanced coordination of the development of educational material and the objectivity of the assessment results in the simultaneous teaching of the discipline in several groups with different teachers, personalization of learning, etc. The article also highlights the constraints of organizational and methodological nature that accompany the introduction of LMS into the learning process, and identifies issues that require discussion in the scientific community and their subsequent solutions.
