This paper discusses the use of the dactylic ending in the poetry by Nikolay Nekrasov and Boris Pasternak. It describes in succession the parts of speech dactylic endings utilize, the grammatical forms they take, and the derivational affixes they consist of. Comparison of the current results with the accent characteristics of Russian words illustrates the extent to which the choice of a particular word is determined by the inflectional and derivational language possibilities. Finally, an internal comparison of Pasternak’s and Nekrasov’s grammatical features demonstrates the distinctive features of each author’s poetic language.

The article deals with Russian translations of ancient epic texts that were made in the last few decades. The type of accentual verse that is frequently (but not universally) considered equirhythmic to Greek and Latin hexameter is called Russian hexameter. The first part of the article gives a brief outline of the metrical history of this verse. The second part classifies the trends in contemporary hexametric translations based on the statistics of dactylization. Some experimental forms of Russian hexameter, which have recently been the point of debate, are discussed in the final part of the present work.

This article discusses the use of the dactylic endings in the Russian poetry in the first quarter of the XX century. I examine into the texts of nine authors: N. Aseev, A. Akhmatova, K. Balmont, N. Gumilev, N. Klyuev, O. Mandelstam, S. Parnok, B. Pasternak, and I. Severyanin. The frequency of using the dactylic endings in these texts is given and analyzed through the special tables. This article is focused on the study of two particular questions: what parts of speech are used in the dactylic rhymes, and what grammatical forms do these parts of speech have. The results of this research show that the dactylic ending is an important feature of the author’s poetic language and a significant parameter that characterizes the era in general.
