Адаптивные функции мечты и процессов мечтания
The question of “costs” and “benefits” of daydreams and daydreaming is widely discussed in psychological literature. Contemporary researchers mostly consider daydreaming as a result of cognitive failures. At the same time, there is a strong body of evidence that dreams and daydreaming play an important part in the process of self-regulation. The article gives a review of experimental studies of adaptive functions of dreams and daydreaming. The findings allow concluding that daydreaming is not a homogeneous phenomenon, and the outcomes of daydreaming depend on its course and content. The paper discusses the main functions of constructive daydreaming as a future-oriented type of daydreaming: anticipation of the future, planning and management of long-term goals, emotional regulation, making sense of one's experience, development of creativity, self-reflection, empathy, dishabituation, and enhancement of learning. Along with an overview of the main approaches to studying daydreams and daydreaming, the view of constructive daydreaming is formulated with its important function of forming the personal future perspective. The results of the review suggest that presence of a holistic dream and constructive daydreaming may be seen as criteria of a mature personality.
