Modeling weather-resilient laser communication: PPM performance with SNSPD in satellite links
Merzlinkin V., Khmelev A. V., Севрюков Д. О. et al., St. Petersburg Polytechnical University Journal: Physics and Mathematics 2025 No. 3 P. 205–209
Laser communication using satellites represents a promising avenue for data transmission in geographically distant areas without advanced infrastructure. This approach is characterized by its high transmission rate and low power requirements, providing substantial benefits over optical fiber and radio communication. However, the optical channel should exhibit greater transparency for light transmission, resulting in a severely restricted application of this technique for information ...

Polarization extinction ratio conversion due to pointing system impact in satellite quantum key distribution
Дуплинский А. В., Khmelev A. V., Бахшалиев Р. М. et al., St. Petersburg Polytechnical University Journal: Physics and Mathematics 2026 Vol. 17 No. 3 P. 88–92
Quantum key distribution via satellites enables the technology to be applied attranscontinental scale; nevertheless, in contrast to fiber systems, using a free-space opticalcommunication channel presents certain extra technological obstacles. The contribution of theacquisition, pointing and tracking system’s operation to the potential quantum bit error valueis investigated in this research. The polarization extinction ratio measurements varying ...

Vector—towards quantum key distribution with small satellites
Miller A., Pismeniuk L., Дуплинский А. В. et al., EPJ QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY 2023 Vol. 10 No. 1 P. 52–72
A satellite-constellation based global quantum network could allow secure quantum communication between remote users worldwide. Such a constellation could be formed of micro- or even nanosatellites, which have the advantage of being more cost-effective than larger expensive spacecrafts. At the same time, the features of quantum communication impose a number of technical requirements that are more difficult to meet when ...

Integrating grazing intensity regulation and livestock mobility restoration: A practical test for China’s next-generation rangeland policies
Li A., Agriculture, Ecosystems and Environment 2026 Vol. 412 Article 110676
Rangeland degradation is a global environmental challenge; however, intense debate persists between equilibrium (focused on the negative effects of grazing intensity) and non-equilibrium (emphasizing livestock mobility for adapting to climate variability) theories in rangeland ecology. In recent years, an integrative theory advocating the “coexistence of equilibrium and non-equilibrium” has emerged to reconcile this debate. However, ...

Understanding the electric double layer at electrode–electrolyte interfaces, Part III: crystallographic-face dependence of silver capacitance in aqueous NaF solutions
Mazur D., Petr E. Brandyshev, Doronin S. et al., Electrochimica Acta 2026 Vol. 577 Article 149729
The electric double layer (EDL) at a single-crystal metal surface is controlled not only by the electrolyte composition and the electrode potential, but also by the atomic structure of the surface itself. This makes the Ag(hkl)/NaF interface a stringent test for continuum theories of the EDL. In the third part of our series, we examine ...

The best uniform rational approximation of the Sign function on two intervals separated by zero was explicitly found by E. I. Zolotarëv in 1877. The natural extension of this problem to three bands was solved by E. Stiefel in 1961. We indicate the solutions overlooked by the prominent geometer and study their properties. ...

Hall effect in electrolyte solutions: Self-consistent Debye–Hückel–Onsager theory
Budkov Y., Kalikin N., Journal of Chemical Physics 2026 Vol. 165 Article 064506
A self-consistent statistical-mechanical theory of the Hall effect in electrolyte solutions is developed by extending the self-consistent Debye–Hückel–Onsager (SCDHO) framework to crossed electric and magnetic fields. The theory incorporates non-local ionic charge distributions via Slater-type form factors, regularizing the Coulomb interaction at short range, and accounts for dielectric friction through ion-specific coefficients, employing experimental values ...

Doping dependence of low-energy charge collective excitations in high-Tc cuprates
Kagan M., Silkin V. M., Efremov D. V., / Series arXiv "math". 2024. No. 2411.12836.
In this study, we analyze the dielectric function of high-Tc cuprates as a function of doping level, taking into account the full energy band dispersion within the CuO2 monolayer. In addition to the conventional two-dimensional (2D) gapless plasmon mode, our findings reveal the existence of three anomalous branches within the plasmon spectrum. Two of these branches ...

In this paper, we applied a deep neural network to study the issue of knowledge transferability between statistical mechanics models. The following computer experiment was conducted. A convolutional neural network was trained to solve the problem of binary classification of snapshots of the Ising model's spin configuration on a two-dimensional lattice. During testing, snapshots of ...
