The problem of ethnic self-determination is important and relevant for young people. The issue of trust in authorities among the youth continues to be one of the most actual themes because of the role of trust as a key element of social capital and a source of identity formation. The purpose of the presented study is to identify the level of political trust, readiness for political behavior, ethnic self-identification of representatives of Russian youth, and to assess the impact of ethnic identity on the named political constructs. The respondents were representatives of the young generation of Russians from different regions of the country - cities and rural areas, aged 18 to 34 years (n = 291). The following methods were used in the empirical study: the scale of political trust, the scale of «willingness to participate in political activity», the method of J. Finney. Young respondents have the greatest trust in the judiciary system, the least in the government and the president. Readiness for political behavior among young people is above the average level. The majority of respondents (64%) have weak ethnic self-identification, 36% of young respondents have a more pronounced ethnic self-identification. The analysis of variance helped to establish that ethnic self-identification is more pronounced among representatives of rural areas than among representatives of the urban population. The results of the regression analysis showed that ethnic identity has an impact on the overall level of trust in government, but does not affect political activity.
