Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

‘Our Team Consists of True Leaders in Their Respective Academic Disciplines
The HSE International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis studies a wide range of methods for analysing decision-making and possible scenarios for the development of natural, socio-economic, and political phenomena using various mathematical models. The application of advanced mathematical methods to forecasting helps to prevent negative outcomes and avoid erroneous decisions. The HSE News Service spoke to the centre’s director, Prof. Fuad Aleskerov, about its work.

Backstepping control of aircraft take-off in windshear

IFAC-PapersOnLine. 2019. Vol. 52. No. 16. P. 712–717.
Golubev A., Botkin N. D., Krishchenko A. P.

In this paper, we deal with the problem of aircraft take-off control in the presence of a windshear. A simplified point mass nonlinear model of aircraft dynamics assuming the flight in a vertical plane is used. A reference trajectory is constructed to satisfy the altitude, relative path inclination and relative velocity state constraints. An integrator backstepping based control design procedure using barrier Lyapunov functions is suggested to track the constructed reference trajectory under state constraints and windshear disturbances.

Wave scattering by a sloping beach of an arbitrary angle. Revisited: regular solution
Mishuris G., Meylan M. H., Pelinovsky E., Journal of Fluid Mechanics 2026 Vol. 1045 Article A4
In this paper, we revisit the classic problem of a wave field on a sloping beach of an arbitrary angle and propose a general approach that allows the computation of regular solutions of the problem regardless of the angle. We use the Mellin-transform technique, reducing the problem to singular integral equations with fixed-point singularities of ...

JavaCapsule: Итеративная генерация и отладка Java-кода на основе структурированной обратной связи
Alexandrov D., Vasilevsky V., Rezunik L. et al., Труды Института системного программирования РАН 2026 Т. 38 № 5 С. 73–90
Large language models demonstrate limitations in tasks that require precise information retrieval from very long input sequences. This limitation affects code generation in large object-oriented systems, where correctness depends on complex inter-class dependencies and the analysis of long execution traces that exceed standard context window sizes. This paper presents JavaCapsule, a technology for automated generation ...

Linear dependencies, polynomial factors in the Duke–Erdős forbidden sunflower problem
Kupavskii A., Noskov F., Forum of Mathematics, Sigma 2026 Vol. 14 Article 124
We call a family of $s$ sets $\{F_1, \ldots, F_s\}$ a sunflower with $s$ petals if, for any distinct $i, j \in [s]$, one has $F_i \cap F_j = \cap_{u = 1}^s F_u$. The set $C = \cap_{u = 1}^s F_u$ is called the {\it core} of the sunflower. It is a classical result of ...

Reliable Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) evaluation requires propagation models that represent terrain and multilevel infrastructure. Most integrated vehicular simulators still rely on planar models, but the magnitude of the resulting bias is unclear. This study quantitatively compares flattened two-dimensional (2D) and terrain-aware three-dimensional (3D) variants of three scenarios using identical Sionna RT settings. Modulational Instability and Wave Dynamics in the Rotated Modified Gardner–Whitham Equation
Flamarion M. V., Pelinovsky E., Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2026 Vol. 213 No. 2 Article 119245
This article concerns the study of modulational instability in the rotated-modified Gardner–Whitham (rmGW) equation. This model incorporates both quadratic and cubic nonlinearities, similarly to the Gardner equation, while also retaining the fully dispersive character of the Whitham equation together with a large-scale dispersive term analogous to that in the Ostrovsky equation. Using a classical multiple-scale asymptotic expansion, we ...

Automated Ranking of Soybean Plots from Close-Range RGB Video via Depth Filtering and Point-Based Counting
Groshev Maksim, Rybakov Petr, Teterin N. et al., Sensors 2026 Article 6171
Manual assessment of soybean yield components, such as pod number, is laborious, time-consuming, and subjective. Existing computer-vision approaches based on object detection or instance segmentation perform poorly on close-range RGB imagery of soybean canopies due to severe occlusions, ambiguous plant boundaries, and the high cost of bounding-box annotation. To address these challenges, we propose a ...

The cerebral blood flow autoregulation modeling problem is treated as a nonlinear control problem and the potential and applicability of the nonlinear control theory techniques are analyzed in this respect. It is shown that the cerebral hemodynamics model in question is differentially ...

Switching systems with dwell time: computing the maximal Lyapunov exponent
Chitour Y., Guglielmi N., Protasov V. et al., Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems 2021 Vol. 40 Article 101021
We study asymptotic stability of continuous-time systems with mode-dependent guaranteed dwell time. These systems are reformulated as special cases of a general class of mixed (discrete–continuous) linear switching systems on graphs, in which some modes correspond to discrete actions and some others correspond to continuous-time evolutions. Each discrete action has its own positive weight which accounts for its timeduration. We ...

In this note we deal with analytical time polynomial based motion planning considerations. A class of differentially flat affine dynamical systems that can be rendered as a set of second-order controlled subsystems is analyzed. It is shown that state and input box constraints can be readily accounted for by proper choice of time of motion ...
