We consider a system of N identical independent Markov processes, each taking values 0 or 1. The system describes the stochastic dynamics of an ensemble of two-level atoms. The atoms are exposed to a photon flux. Under the photon flux action, each atom changes its state with some rates either from its ground state (state 0) to the excited state (state 1) or from the excited state to the ground state (stimulated emission). The atom can also spontaneously change its state from the excited to the ground state. We study rare events where a large cumulative emission occurs during a fixed time interval [0, T]. For this, we apply the large-deviation theory, which allows an asymptotic analysis.

Numerous studies have provided compelling evidence that the probability distribution of avalanche sizes follows a power law, and that 1/f noise is present in the stochastic dynamics of landslides. We present a theoretical explanation of these phenomena within the framework of self-organized criticality theory, proposing a discrete-time model in the form of a sandpile cellular ...

A discrete-time model is presented for the self-organization of the X/Twitter social network to the edge of a phase transition, characterized by avalanche-like propagation of information in the network. The model is based on the analogy between the critical dynamics of the X social network and sandpile cellular automata with Manna rule on the Chung-Lu ...

Superconducting properties of metallic micro- and nanowires can be entirely different from those of bulk superconductors. Of particular interest is the nonequilibrium current-induced state of a quasi-one-dimensional superconducting channel. The most interesting phenomenon here is the stepped I–V characteristic, explained by a process known as phase slip center activation. If the origin of such step-like ...

Machine learning (ML) has become a powerful tool for accelerating the development of carbon-based supercapacitors;
however, most published models assume that a single predictive framework can describe both conventional
porous carbons and hybrid carbon electrodes. Here, we test this assumption using a comprehensive
benchmark dataset and an extended literature-curated dataset enriched with synthesis- and electrolyte-related
descriptors. Three ML algorithms ...

This paper compares the ranging precision of direct time-of-flight (dToF) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) LiDAR architectures, both using a superconducting nanowire single-photon detector (SNSPD). Both systems operate at 1550 nm with a 50 ps pulsed laser and time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC). The dToF configuration achieved approximately 100 µm precision at 10 m, while the NLOS configuration achieved 500 µm precision for ...

We investigate a special ansats that allows for an iterative solution of the constant Yang-Baxter equation. Testing this ansatz, we construct four sequences of the constant R-matrices. In each sequence the R-matrices act on the tensor squares of vector spaces of linearly growing dimensions. Each R-matrix also depends on a single complex parameter.
By analyzing the ...

We study complete static manifolds with boundary admitting a nowhere-vanishing static potential. Our main result shows that, under a natural lower bound relating the scalar curvature and the boundary mean curvature, a simple static manifold with boundary must in fact have positive scalar curvature, negative boundary mean curvature, and be compact; we also obtain explicit ...

Clarity of knowledge and reasoning is necessary in many cases. Yet vagueness in scientific thinking related to surprise, curiosity, "ability to engage with not-knowing" (de Freitas) and abductive reasoning is also a crucially important source of scientific creativity which supplements combinatorial logic when dealing with the already known. Starting from studies by C. S. Peirce ...

B.Josephson (Nobel Prize, 1973) predicted a tunnelling effect for a system of two superconductors separated by a narrow dielectric (such a system is called Josephson junction): existence of a supercurrent through it and equations governing it. Anosov flows have a long and rich history, firstly motivated by the
study of geodesic flows in negative curvature surface by Anosov and Sinai.
Not every closed manifold admits an Anosov flow for well-known reasons:
the fundamental group of a 3-manifold M admitting an Anosov flow must
have exponential growth, and M must be universally covered by R3. Nevertheless,
there ...

Chow polylogarithms are some special functions arising in explicit description of the Beilinson regulator map. The most interesting functional equation for this function reflects its vanishing on the boundary in the Bloch's cycle complex. To prove this, we study ...
