The article endeavours at giving an overview of the state of Moscow theaters after Napoleon’s invasion of Russia in 1812. The article addresses this problem from different perspectives. Theater life depended on government politics, administrative talents of theater directors, and the attitudes of Moscovites and city officials. The result of this process was the opening of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
