This excellent book by Andreas Kappeler could occupy any number of places on the library shelves. First, it is the most up-to-date biog- raphy of Aleksandra and Petro Iefymenko, a married couple of two historian-ethnographers, an ethnic Russian and an ethnic Ukrainian, respectively, both of whom enjoyed elusive, hybrid, and multiple iden- tities during the second half of the long nineteenth century.
