The article is a review of book «Mezhdu vsemi starshinami znatneishii». Pervyi kazakhskii tarkhan Zhanibek Koshkaruly”(“The eldest among all doyens: The first Kazakh tarkhan Zhanibek Koshkaruly”) by Irina Erofeeva. The book is devoted to biography of military and political leader and statesman who played an important role in the development of Kazakh-Russian relations in the first half of the 18th c. This publication gives an opportunity to ‘revive’ a bit the ideas of specialists and persons interested in the history of Kazakhstan on this topic, to look at general political relations in Kazakhstan in the first half of the 18th c. not through the prism of abstract political events, but through the fates of specific persons (at that the central place belongs to Zhanibek batyr).
