Объективные факторы отношения населения современной России к остроте социальных противоречий: сравнение степени значимости
The perception of intergroup conflicts is determined both by the objective position of individuals in the system of socio-economic inequalities and by their subjective worldview attitudes. At the same time, both domestic and foreign scholars usually focus on subjective factors that influence the perception of intergroup conflicts. However, objective characteristics can also have a significant impact on individuals’ attitudes toward social conflicts. The reasons for their influence on Russians’ attitudes toward various conflicts are far from simple, and their comparative significance is far from obvious. Given the role of this issue in the context of radical changes in the country and the world, as well as the intensification of external challenges for Russia in recent years, it is particularly important to understand why, as shown in the article, the painful perception of many intergroup conflicts has been traditional for public consciousness in Russia in recent decades. A new trend, however, is that the set of social contradictions that have been troubling Russians over the past 20 years has changed quite significantly. Based on data from a representative nationwide study conducted by the IS FCTAS RAS in 2024, this article uses regression analysis to show which factors currently have the strongest influence on the perception of Russian citizens that there are acute intergroup conflicts in Russian society. In particular, it has been demonstrated that the painful perception of intergroup conflicts is primarily influenced by such objective factors as living in Moscow and St. Petersburg, which are characterized by the deepest social inequalities, a downward trend in material well-being, and the presence of serious problems in their lives in the year preceding the survey. At the same time, for the working part of the country’s population, the level of education, the length of the working week, and the timeliness of wage payments are also of great importance, while among the unemployed, the likelihood of a painful perception of conflicts (in addition to the factors common to all Russians) is increased by being male and having a family.
