A set of hydrometeorological models, has been used to assess the likely changes in Terek River runoff in the 21st century, taking into account climate and glaciation changes in the basin. It has been shown that runoff changes will range from –2 to +5% under the RCP 2.6 scenario and from –8 to +14% under the RCP 8.5 scenario. The direction of runoff changes in the sub-basins depends significantly on the elevation of the snow- and glacier-fed zone.

This book is a comprehensive study on how the national security sectors of China, India, Japan, Russia, and the United States have engaged the idea of climate change as an existential threat. Climate Change, National Security and Geopolitics examines the respective ways in which the five states have framed the issue of climate change in ...

The aim of the study is to assess the provision of all settlements in four regions of the Near North of Russia (Vologda, Kostroma, Kirov, and Yaroslavl oblasts) with social infrastructure institutions and to analyze whether the migration balance of settlements is associated with different provision of these institutions. The study was conducted using data ...

Comprehensive data on natural hazards and their consequences are crucial for effective for risk assessment, adaptation planning, and emergency response. However, many countries face challenges with fragmented, inconsistent, and inaccessible data, particularly regarding local-scale events. To address this data gap in Russia, we developed an end-to-end processing pipeline that scrapes news from various online sources, ...

Cloud shadows lead to alternating light and dark periods at the surface, with
the most abrupt changes occurring in the presence of low-level forced cumulus clouds.

We examine the physical and biological responses of forest canopies to step changes in light
caused by passing low cumulus clouds that intermittently block the direct solar beam. Using
data obtained at a tropical rainforest and at a midlatitude deciduous forest, we estimate the
course of sensible heat flux, net ecosystem exchange, evapotranspiration, and water-use efficiency in response ...

Addressing effects of environment on eddy-covariance flux estimates at a temperate sedge-grass marsh

obtained from eddy-covariance (EC) measurements at an unmanaged sedge-grass marsh
ecosystem (Tˇreboˇn, Czech Republic, 49°1′ N, 14°46′ E), seeking methods to improve the EC
measurements in inhomogeneous environment. The data filtering procedure was developed
using three thresholds: (a) a stationarity test; (b) a stability u∗-threshold; and (c) a high relative
humidity RH-threshold. ...

R2=0.75 (p-value=7.546e-12). Late Pleistocene transformation of European glacial landscapes is often narrowed down to the impact of
postglacial linear erosion. Yet in the marginal zone of MIS 6 glaciation extensive watersheds were protractedly
affected by the postglacial flattening in periglacial and interglacial conditions. Local sediment sinks such
