This case highlights a Russian firm’s ability to adapt, change and grow in the challenging and uncertain market. The case recounts how a medium-size Russian company involved in design, manufacturing and distribution of medical devices for hematological and microbiological laboratories adapts its strategy and organizational design to meet the demands of a challenging environment. The case provides a vivid account of the situation faced by the firm in a period of high competition in an emerging market and the materials provide users of the case a data rich environment to complete strategic organizational analysis, to discover possible situational and contingency misfits such as unbalanced situations between the environment, technology, strategy, organizational form, organizational climate, type of leadership etc and to propose plausible changes in strategy and company organization in order to reduce (eliminate) discovered misfits. The case may be used in concert with the Organizational Consultant software from EcoMerc Inc. The case is meant for MBA and MSc students in an Organizational Diagnosis and Design Competitive and Corporate Strategies course. The case may be used both in a traditional setting and in course utilizing distance learning technique.
