Alterity and sacrality in the nineteenth century

The article compares the ideas of four thinkers of the nineteenth century - Joseph de Maistre, Thomas Carlyle, Karl Marx and Jules Michelet - who, in various aspects, outlined the problems of the non-religious sacred, that is, of the "absolutely different" in personal and social experience.
