The most important publication concerning early Confucian education during the middle and late Chosŏn period was a primer entitled Tongmong sŏnsŭp (First exercises for the uneducated youth), which was composed around 1540 by an unknown author. This paper treats Tongmong sŏnsŭp as a prime example for the juggling with and adjustment of linguistic and ideological codes, here for the needs of childhood pedagogy.
