«Проблема состоит» vs. «Проблема заключается» в текстах научного стиля (по корпусным данным)
The article is focused on the analysis of variability in the use of collocations “X sostoit/zaklyuchaetsya v P2” with the lexical function FUNC2 (the family of verbal lexical functions OPER-LABOR-FUNC) in scientific texts, comprising X as a lexical slot (the argument of the function) filled with a semantically appropriate nominative noun and P2 that indicates a participant expressed by a nominal or sentential actant. In the course of the study, a corpus of 202,735 words was compiled and preprocessed. To minimize the influence of random factors and ensure the balance of the corpus, thematically diverse texts were included in the corpus, comprising two sub-corpora consisting of texts on natural sciences (100,941 tokens) and humanities (101,794 tokens). The analysis conducted using corpus methods confirms the syntactic motivation for choosing the verb in the considered collocations (χ2 , p-value ≈ 0.0001). As a result of the study, it was found that P2 with the verb “sostoyat” is statistically more often expressed by a sentential actant, while with the verb “zaklyuchatsya” — by a nominal one.
