The article presents analysis of passages of ancient Russian chronicles as a source of information about legal realities of the Golden Horde. This information is analyzed and compared with that from other medieval monuments (historical and legal documents, reports of foreign contemporaries, etc.) The conclusion is made that chronicle reports about the voyages of Russian metropolitans to the Golden Horde can be of great interest and substantially expand the corpus of their contemporaries’ evidences of the Golden Horde, its life as state and its law.
