Основные направления деятельности TIKA – Турецкого агентства по сотрудничеству и кооперации в Центральной Азии
This article examines the activities of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency for Central Asian Countries (TIKA). The organization was established in 1992 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. Since its establishment TIKA, along with other conductors of Ankara's interests (such as public foundations, NGOs, and cultural and academic centers), has been an important instrument of Turkey's foreign policy. The agency has been implementing various socially relevant projects through its branches in Central Asia since the 1990s. The main objective of TIKA was to develop infrastructure in countries of the former Soviet Union with a majority Turkic-speaking population, as well as to create a pan-Turkic identity in the region, which was in line with the plans of the Turkish Republic's leaders to create a supranational Turkic space. Since the 2000s TIKA's geographical reach has expanded considerably; the number of its offices has increased and it is now implementing projects in 150 countries around the world. The analysis of the agency's main activities conducted in this article leads to the conclusion that, despite the expansion of TIKA's geography, by the early 2020s, Central Asia remains one of the largest regions for foreign assistance to the Republic of Turkey.
