Physicists Discover What Happens Inside a Stable Vortex
Large vortices with characteristic spiral arms are often observed in the atmosphere and the ocean. Physicists from HSE University have explained how these structures form and why they retain their shape. The researchers found that velocities at points located along the same vortex arc remain correlated even over long distances. At the same time, this correlation weakens rapidly with increasing distance from the vortex centre. These differences help explain the formation of spiral arms and may improve models of atmospheric and oceanic currents. The findings have been published in Physical Review Fluids.

Dmitrieva V. A., Fedorov F. S., Chetyrkina M. R. et al., Journal of Analysis and Testing 2025 Vol. 9 P. 399–404
Carbon nanotube fibers (CNTFs) fabricated using a novel “wet-pulling” technique were evaluated for electrochemical detection of dopamine (DA). To enhance the sensitivity, we employed an electrochemical oxidation pretreatment and twisting of CNTFs and investigated the performance by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA). The synergetic effect of twisting and pre-oxidation boosted the sensitivity of modified ...

Analyzing the Robustness of Vision & Language Models
Shirnin A., Andreev N., Potapova S. et al., IEEE/ACM Transactions on Speech and Language Processing 2024 Vol. 32 P. 2751–2763
We present an approach to evaluate the robustness of pre-trained vision and language (V&L) models to noise in input data. Given a source image/text, we perturb it using standard computer vision (CV) / natural language processing (NLP) techniques and feed it to a V&L model. To track performance changes, we explore the problem of visual ...

Ion-Sensitive Three-Terminal Device as a Universal Hybrid Platform With TiO2 Nanowires on the Channel
Dalal A., Bebarta A., Paul A. D. et al., IEEE Sensors Journal 2023 Vol. 23 No. 3 P. 1917–1924
We developed a three-terminal ion-sensitive device (TTISD) as a proton (H+) and arsenic (As3+) sensor for the detection of glucose and As(III) dissolved in water. The TTISD was fabricated using the e-beam evaporation and glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique. The TiO2 nanowires (NWs) were grown by GLAD on the conducting nafion channel of the TTISD ...

Dobrokvashina A., Lavrenov R., Bai Y. et al., , in: Proceedings of 2022 IEEE Moscow Workshop on Electronic and Networking Technologies (MWENT).: M.: IEEE, 2022. P. 1–5.
Simulations became a convenient, easy and safe way to interact with a robot in a virtual world in order to reproduce complex tasks and environments, preliminary evaluate new concepts and algorithms instead of directly building complicated testing field constructions in real world. Yet, a simulation requires an adequate model of a robot that corresponds well ...

Estimation of average delay in systems with unsourced random access and multiple departure
Borisovskayа A., Glebov A., Andrey Turlikov, , in: 2021 XVII International Symposium "Problems of Redundancy in Information and Control Systems" (REDUNDANCY).: IEEE, 2021. P. 28–33.
In this paper, a model of the system with an unlimited number of users is considered. For data transmission in this model, unsourced random access is used. In case of successful transmission, multiple departure of users is carried out. For this system model, some hypotheses are formulated. Based on hypotheses, methods for constructing upper and ...

Embedded ArUco: a novel approach for high precision UAV landing
Khazetdinov A., Zakiev A., Tsoy T. et al., , in: 2022 International Siberian Conference on Control and Communications (SIBCON).: IEEE, 2022. Ch. 9438855.
This paper presents a novel approach for precise UAV landing using visual sensory data. A new type of fiducial marker called embedded ArUco (e-ArUco) was developed specially for a task of a robust marker detection for a wide range of distances. E-ArUco markers are based on original ArUco markers approach and require only ArUco detection ...
