How to Assess Students Knowledge in the Age of AI
A researcher at HSE University has proposed a flowchart to help lecturers decide how to assess students who use artificial intelligence. It shows where the use of AI should be restricted and where it can be incorporated into the learning process. The article has been published in IT Professional.

‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

The Genesis of the Cult of Trotsky in the Russian Civil War
Reznik A., History 2022 Vol. 107 No. 378 P. 910–926
From 1914 onwards, leader-centric imagery became a prominent component of hegemonic Russian political discourse, and these early cults of military and political leaders served as inspiration for later veneration of Lenin and Stalin. The case of Leon Trotsky, a top leader of the Red Army and the Soviet state, is of crucial importance for understanding ...

Lev Trotskii’s Experiences of Autobiography: My Life and Its Antecedents
Reznik A., , in: Personal Trajectories In Russia’s Great War And Revolution, 1914–22. Biographical Itineraries, Individual Experiences, Autobiographical ReflectionsVol. 9: Russia's Great War and Revolution.: Slavica Publishers, 2021. P. 333–353.
Somewhat provocatively, I intend to reread this explicitly politicized autobiography through less political optics, in order to indicate which meanings, arguably, were important for the author. Approaching an analysis of My Life, one should emphasize its subtitle, Opyt avtobiografii, which was originally translated into English somewhat misleadingly as An Attempt at an Autobiography. This formulation ...

Leon Trotsky was not only an outstanding writer and speaker amongst Marxist politicians of his time, but he also could be named as one of the most well-known (auto)biographer. It was not only politics, that differed him from other high-ranking Bolsheviks, but it was a culture as well. Many of Trotsky’s rivals accused Trotsky of ...

Leon Trotsky, the Cultural Debates, and the Political Struggle in 1923
Reznik A., Historical Materialism 2020 Vol. 28 No. 2 P. 140–169
This article examines interconnections between politics and culture in the early Soviet era, using Leon Trotsky’s activities in the campaign for a new everyday life (novyi byt) in 1923 as a case-study. Traditionally, scholars pay attention primarily to Trotsky’s writings on literature and art. In contrast, this article shows the important role of Trotsky’s brochure ...

There are two factors influencing on representation of revolutionary events of 1917 in the popular TV-series in the post-Soviet Russia. First, it is the negative revaluation of revolution which took place in public discussions of the 1990th when both the dominating elite, and opposition expressed equally negative relation to this event. Subsequently this position was ...

Введение
Reznik A., В кн.: Л. Д.

The article is devoted to the formation of «scientific» expertise in historical knowledge in the USSR as an integral part of the shaping Bolshevik ideology. History, abolished in 1920-ies as an academic discipline, served to prove the logical victory of the socialist revolution in Russia, which opposed Marx’s vision. At first the two prominent par- ...

Lev Trotskii as the Mirror of the Russian Revolution
Reznik A.V., Kritika: Explorations in Russian and Eurasian History 2016 Vol. 17 No. 1 P. 181–191
According to Soviet school textbooks, the Russian writer Lev Tolstoi, in the light hand of Vladimir Lenin, was known as the “mirror of the Russian Revolution.” This metaphor was not entirely accurate, as Lenin was equally convinced that Tolstoi did not correctly reflect the revolution. In the same sense one may consider Lev Davidovich Trotskii ...
