HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Korean geographic cheonhado maps can be translated as “Maps of All-Under-Heaven”. They are a special phenomenon in Korean geography and culture, since the space presented on these maps is only partially real. They were widely distributed in the Korean kingdom of Joseon (1392-1897) in the 17th-18th centuries and were popular among the aristocracy until the ...

Reevaluating the Circumstances Surrounding the Conclusion of the 1876 Kanghwa Treaty between Korea and Japan
Grishina D., European Journal of Korean Studies 2025 Vol. 25 No. 1 P. 97–114

Korean historiography has traditionally emphasized the involuntary nature of the treaty, stressing that the Chosŏn government was ...

Nataliya A. Chesnokova, , in: The Routledge Handbook of Early Modern Korea.: Routledge, 2025. P. 43 – 57.
The setting in many contemporary South Korean historical dramas is the Chosŏn state (1392– 1897). The public has become familiar with ideas, institutions, and artifacts supposedly representing Chosŏn. Admiring Chosŏn arts and literature, some may dream about wearing hanbok, the traditional clothing of Korea, and pacing along the Han River in the kingdom’s capital, Hansŏng (present-day Seoul). Not ...
