Письма редактору американских газет: лингво-медийный аспект
This study is devoted to the study of readers' letters to the editorial office of American newspapers. The target installation of such letters is a comparison of the evaluation of the event by a journalist and a reader. A letter to the editor, as a genre of journalistic discourse, is one of the forms of dialogical communicative communication of mass written communication. The material of the study was letters to the editor of American national newspapers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today and Daily News, the discourse of which is considered as a mass-media and institutional. The epistolary genre, represented by letters to the editor, contains a large number of nuclear and peripheral functions, among which the main are communicative and expressive (emotional-evaluation). One of the areas of the study is the application of the dictemic theory of M.Ya. Bloch to identify structural features to the editor of American newspapers: each letter is considered as a minimum topical unit of text-dicteme, the lexical components of which are united by a common theme and a single lexical and semantic field. The analysis of empirical material made it possible to identify semantic types of dictemes (narrative, descriptive, reasoning) and the principles of their selection. For each type of dictemes, a set of vocabulary - grammatical characteristics that are used to organize all kinds of utterances is distinguished. Another direction of the study of letters to the editor is meta-discourse analysis. As part of the study, it was possible to identify meta-units in epistolary texts and reveal their functional significance for the reader. Existing in the text as a material print of discursive relations, meta-discourse markers regulate both internal textual relations and relations between the author of the text and the very text. Textual meta-discourse contributes to the structuring of the text as a whole.
