The effect of inequality and polarization on democratic stability
With the era of Trump, the popularity of inequality, polarization and democratic stability have risen even more - scholars have written many works studying separately the relationship between these concepts. This study aims to answer the specific question-To what extent do elite polarization and income inequality affect democratic stability? In other words, the research investigates the interaction effect of the elite's polarization with income inequality on democratic stability. Moreover, the elite's polarization aggregate index is calculated basing on 5 main dimensions-cleavages: LGBT, Gender Equality, Political Pluralism, Immigration. The results indicate that in countries, where the level of inequality is high, polarization affects negatively on democratic stability, while the level of inequality is low, polarization affects positively on democratic stability.
