Scientists Create Open Dataset for Studying Concentration
A team of Russian researchers, including scientists from HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed the first open multimodal dataset containing recordings of brain activity, heart function, and video observations to help researchers understand what happens in the human brain during deep concentration. In the future, the dataset could accelerate the development of neural interfaces, rehabilitation technologies, and AI systems. The article has been published in Scientific Data.

‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

Scientists Propose Method for More Efficient Resource Use in Machine Learning
An international group of researchers, including mathematicians from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, has provided a theoretical justification for a simple and computationally efficient method of estimating uncertainty in Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The paper has been published on the scientific preprint server arXiv.org and presented at AISTATS 2026.

ELECTRODYNAMIC MODEL OF CONICAL HORN ANTENNA RADIATION FIELDS FOR PURPOSES OF ELECTROMAGNETIC SAFETY

P. 1–4.
A. P. Kuchina, E. A. Zakirova

Conical horn antennas are one of the most common aperture antennas and are widely used for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves in areas such as microwave communications and electromagnetic compatibility testing. The radiation of electromagnetic fields by conical horns has been studied by many authors, and a number of methods have been proposed to determine the horn antennas' radiation pattern. However, analysis of the results of these works showed that additional research is required to calculate the directional coefficient in the Fresnel zone, taking into account the phasing of the horn aperture. This research proposes a technique for calculating the field elements created by a conical horn. In addition, a refinement of the mathematical model for determining the radiation near the aperture of a conical horn antenna is shown. In the study, the results of the construction of the radiation pattern in Mathcad depending on the phasing were obtained. The resulting model allows for more accurate measurements of the radiation of a conical horn antenna, which helps protect people and radio equipment from unnecessary radiation exposure.

This paper presents an analysis of a single planar resonant slot patch antenna model for the LowBand range (3348.5 MHz). The results of computer simulations of its electrodynamic characteristics were obtained, including radiation patterns, complex reflection coefficient (S11), and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) as functions of frequency. The influence of dimensional variations of such ...

Optically Nonlinear Structures in Glass by Electron Lithography: Direct Writing
S.A. Scherbak, Terpitskiy А. N., Reshetov I. et al., ACS Photonics 2025 Vol. 12 No. 4 P. 2016–2026
Standard e-beam lithography system is used for writing a set of charged regions in glass, which provide patterned area possessing electric-field-induced quadratic optical nonlinearity. Patterned glass provides second optical harmonic generation (SHG) under a normal incident fundamental wave. Grating-like regions with periodicity from 2 to 32 μm demonstrate diffractionlike radiation patterns due to the interference of the second harmonic waves in the ...

Radiation of Multibeam Microwave Generator on Electron-Oscillator Flows
Mozgovoi Y. D., Khritkin S. A., , in: Proceedings of the 18th IEEE International Vacuum Electronics Conference (IVEC-2017).: L.: IEEE, 2017. P. 1–2.
Spatially distributed generators on electron-oscillator flows are promising for high-power microwave radiation. In the case of multibeam generator output microwave energy of each beam can be made via antenna assemblies that determine the polarization of the field including a linear polarization in one direction of the coordinate axes. By the method of the non-linear nonstationary ...

An approximate model of discrete multibeam generator based on the use of equivalent oscillators is offered. Formation of the antenna radiation field in a three-dimensional approach on the example of a cylindrical ring radiator is considered. Each ring consists of a large number of dipoles oriented in a longitudinal direction. It is shown that the ...
