Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

Composite Anion Exchange Membranes Based on Quaternary Ammonium-Functionalized Polystyrene and Cerium(IV) Phosphate with Improved Monovalent-Ion Selectivity and Antifouling Properties

Membranes. 2023. Vol. 13. No. 7. Article 624.
Manin A., Golubenko D., Novikova S., Andrey Yaroslavtsev

The possibility of targeted change of the properties of ion exchange membranes by incorporation
of various nanoparticles into the membranes is attracting the attention of many research
groups. Here we studied for the first time the influence of cerium phosphate nanoparticles on
the physicochemical and transport properties of commercial anion exchange membranes based
on quaternary ammonium-functionalized polystyrenes, such as heterogeneous Ralex® AM and
pseudo-homogeneous Neosepta® AMX. The incorporation of cerium phosphate on one side of the
membrane was performed by precipitation from absorbed cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN) anionic
complex with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate or phosphoric acid. The structures of the obtained
hybrid membranes and separately synthesized cerium phosphate were investigated using FTIR,
P31 MAS NMR, EDX mapping, and scanning electron microscopy. The modification increased the
membrane selectivity to monovalent ions in the ED desalination of an equimolar mixture of NaCl
and Na2SO4. The highest selectivities of Ralex® AM and Neosepta® AMX-based hybrid membranes
were 4.9 and 7.7, respectively. In addition, the modification of Neosepta® membranes also increased
the resistance to a typical anionic surfactant, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate.

Kobtsev Danil, Albert J., Nitzan M. et al., Applied Sciences (Switzerland) 2026 Vol. 16 No. 17 Article 8577
AIVBVI semiconductors, particularly lead chalcogenides, remain key materials for mid-wave infrared (MWIR) photodetection due to their narrow bandgap and exceptional carrier transport properties. However, the realization of high-quality p-type PbTe thin films, suitable for p–n junction devices, remains a technological challenge. In this work, we report the fabrication of high-mobility p-type PbTe thin films grown on ...

Zhukov A., Liang Y., Zhang X. et al., ACS Applied Nano Materials 2026 Vol. 9 No. 32 P. 15224–15232
The development of high-light-yield scintillators based on perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) is hindered by their intrinsic instability and aggregation, which severely limits their long-term operational reliability and integration into polymeric matrices. Silica coating has been demonstrated as an effective strategy to enhance the stability of PQDs. However, achieving fast and uniform silica encapsulation on individual ...

Non-epitaxial perovskite polariton laser diode operating under direct current
Zhukov A., Kryzhanovskaya N., Moiseev E. et al., Nature 2026 Vol. 656 P. 80–85
Reaching lasing in electrically pumped microdevices based on solution-processed semiconductors poses a substantial scientific and technological challenge. Halide perovskites offer a promising platform for electrical injection1, as their optically excited single-crystal cavities2–4 and predesigned5,6 or postprocessed microstructures7,8 have exhibited low lasing threshold. Indirect electrical pumping of a dual-cavity perovskite laser was recently obtained9, using a well-established technological concept of embedding a ...

Understanding the electric double layer at electrode–electrolyte interfaces, Part III: crystallographic-face dependence of silver capacitance in aqueous NaF solutions
Mazur D., Brandyshev P., Doronin S. V. et al., Electrochimica Acta 2026 Vol. 577 Article 149729
The electric double layer (EDL) at a single-crystal metal surface is controlled not only by the electrolyte composition and the electrode potential, but also by the atomic structure of the surface itself. This makes the Ag(hkl)/NaF interface a stringent test for continuum theories of the EDL. In the third part of our series, we examine ...

Hall effect in electrolyte solutions: Self-consistent Debye–Hückel–Onsager theory
Budkov Y., Kalikin N., Journal of Chemical Physics 2026 Vol. 165 Article 064506
A self-consistent statistical-mechanical theory of the Hall effect in electrolyte solutions is developed by extending the self-consistent Debye–Hückel–Onsager (SCDHO) framework to crossed electric and magnetic fields. The theory incorporates non-local ionic charge distributions via Slater-type form factors, regularizing the Coulomb interaction at short range, and accounts for dielectric friction through ion-specific coefficients, employing experimental values ...

Novikov A., New Journal of Chemistry 2026 Vol. 50 P. 13931–13957
The rational design of coinage metal nanocarriers requires a mechanistic understanding of metal-drug binding and predictive descriptors that translate molecular interactions into design rules. Using DFT (B3LYP-D3BJ/def2-TZVP, SMD water), we systematically investigated the binding of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and levodopa (l-DOPA) to neutral and cationic homo- and heteronuclear dimers of Au, Ag, and Cu (Au2, Ag2, ...

The orthorhombic phase of 𝛼-Mo2 C is a key component in electrocatalytic applications, as Mo2C-based catalysts can exhibit catalytic performance comparable to or exceeding that of noble metals. Despite its technological relevance, theoretical understanding of the anisotropy in the thermal expansion and related thermoelastic properties of 𝛼-Mo2 C remains limited. In this work, first-principles calculations ...

Korogod D., Shapeev A., Ivan S. Novikov, Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 114 No. 2 Article 024104
We present two models with explicit long-range electrostatics in the form of Coulomb interactions. Both models include point charges depending on their local atomic environments, and the second model also conserves a total charge of an atomic system. We combine the proposed long-range models with the local moment tensor potential (MTP) and demonstrate that they ...

Design of Eutectic Solvents with Specified Extraction Properties Based on Intermolecular Interaction Energy
Kozhevnikova A., Uvarova E., Varvara E. Maltseva et al., Molecules 2024 Vol. 29 No. 21 Article 5022
A new approach to managing the extraction properties of eutectic solvents based on aliphatic alcohols is proposed. Aliphatic alcohols, when functioning as hydrogen bond donors within a eutectic solvent, significantly enhance the solvent’s efficiency in extracting metal ions. Conversely, when the alcohol acts as a hydrogen bond acceptor, its extraction properties diminish. Molecular modelling reveals ...

On the analysis of monovalent-ion selectivity of anion-exchange membranes
Golubenko D. V., Manin A. D., Wu L. et al., Desalination 2024 Vol. 573 Article 117178
