This article is devoted to the variability of the intonation of discourse markers in English debates. The specific characteristics of debate as a genre of polemic discourse are described. Focus is given to interpersonal discourse markers, which have a special pragmatic potential and are characterized by polyfunctionality. The results of the research presented in the paper show the connection between intonation of the interpersonal markers I think and actually and their functions.
