The article is devoted to the analysis of archival materials related to the conflict in thelandowner family of Fyodor and Alexandra Voeikov, which acquired the character of asecret state affair, in which top officials were involved and in which the final decisionwas made by Empress Catherine II. The documents in question are a valuable source ongender history, contain interesting information on the history of everyday life, patron-client and family relations, customs and worldview of the Russian nobility in the lastquarter of the 18th century. The article also raises the question of the nature of the royaldisgrace in Catherinian Russia.
