This is the second stage of a Research Project on Resistance to Change, carried out with the cooperation of Italian and foreign scholars of Indo-Aryan Literature and Greek History and Literature, funded at the University of Cagliari. The sections follow a chronological order: 1. ancient and Middle Indo-Aryan sources (Vedic, Sanskrit and Pālī literature); 2. ancient Greek history and literature (Athenian laws and democracy; Aristophanes; Lucian; the myth of Orpheus); 3. literary technique in Sanskrit (grammar, philosophy of language, logic, theatre, exegesis, Dharma and Abhidharma); 4. medieval and modern India (poetry of the Vijayanagar empire, Bengali literature and history, Hindī novel and modern theatre in Sanskrit).

Hindi novels of the 1880s-1910s highlight romantic or matrimonial union as an important, even pivotal part of each story: indeed, in formula-based novels, a wedding and/or a reunification of a couple are typically shown as the ultimate celebration of personal or social harmony (as in Parīkṣāguru by Srinivasdas or the legendary Chandrakāntā by Devakinandan Khatri). ...
