Selenskyjs Authoritararer Populismus: Von Frieden zum Krieg

.
Baysha O.
Editor of translation: S. Kraft

As is evident from analysis of Zelensky’s war speeches, which the chapter analyzes, he has presented the complex history of the Russia-Ukraine conflict as a simple story of Armageddon—the final battle between the forces of Light and the forces of Darkness. What makes this mythical frame of reference for the Russia-Ukraine war extremely problematic is that it leaves aside all important factors that should be considered for the conversation to be serious: the Maidan coup d'état, the Donbass rebellion, the ATO, the Minsk agreements, and so on and so forth. If all these factors are accounted for, the picture of the conflict will appear much more complex, and its is the recognition of this utmost complexity that will invite for alternative visions of a peaceful resolution. These visions should be welcomed—not suppressed.
