HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

From Class Foes to the Upper Class: Diverse Paths to Fame and Fortune in Soviet Egyptology

P. 557–572.
Loktionov A.

This paper seeks to address the topic of diversity in Egyptology by offering an insight into the processes that shaped conceptualisations of Egyptological success in the Soviet Union. For most of its history, the Soviet Union found it quite difficult to engage with the Western scholarly tradition that has been instrumental in shaping mainstream understandings of what Egyptology is right up to the present day. While an extensive literature on various historical aspects of Russian and Soviet Egyptology has long existed within its homeland, only in very recent years has this field of scholarship started to make an effort to engage with international academic audiences outside the Russophone sphere.

Addressing Diversity: Inclusive Histories of Egyptology
Muenster: Zaphon, 2023.
This volume is dedicated to the 'supporting actors' in the history of Egyptology, who are often outside the spotlight. It by no means intends to trivialise the achievements of the 'main characters', nor do the editors intend to instrumentalise the history of science for socio-political purposes. Rather, the performance of various groups of actors, including the lesser ...
