he article is devoted to a meta-discourse analysis of the famous speech of Lord Byron in the House of Lords on February 27, 1812, which is considered an ideal model of the oratory style and a masterpiece of eloquence. The study uses the classification of meta-discourse markers developed by Ken Hayland. The classification is based on a functional approach, which allows us to distinguish aspects of the author’s interaction with the text and the author with the reader. The meta-discourse system of linguistic means of adaptation of the speech code to the needs of communicative actions helps in the process of verbal embodiment of communicative intent.
