HSE Scholar Presents Research on Postcards in Brazil and South Korea
Timur Khusyainov, Deputy Dean of theFaculty of Humanities atHSE University–Nizhny Novgorod, took part in two international conferences—the XVI World Congress of Rural Sociology in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and the 36th Annual Conference of the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organisations (DH2026) in Daejeon, South Korea. On his way to the conferences, the researcher also visited several other places, where he presented the experience of the Pochtovoe educational project.

Physicists Discover What Happens Inside a Stable Vortex
Large vortices with characteristic spiral arms are often observed in the atmosphere and the ocean. Physicists from HSE University have explained how these structures form and why they retain their shape. The researchers found that velocities at points located along the same vortex arc remain correlated even over long distances. At the same time, this correlation weakens rapidly with increasing distance from the vortex centre. These differences help explain the formation of spiral arms and may improve models of atmospheric and oceanic currents. The findings have been published in Physical Review Fluids.

Phase-Field System as a Regularization of the Free-Boundary Problem for an Incompressible Immiscible Two-Component Flow
Burov N.A., Gaydukov R.K., Russian Journal of Mathematical Physics 2026 Vol. 33 No. 2 P. 263–275
The spreading of a droplet of incompressible fluid over a substrate under the action of capillary forces and gravity is studied within a phase-field framework. An asymptotic analysis shows that the solution of the phase-field system (regularized problem) converges to the solution of the corresponding limiting problem when a regularization parameter tends to zero. The ...

Optimized interatomic potential for study of structure and phase transitions in Si-Au and Si-Al systems
Starikov S., Gordeev I., Lysogorskiy Y. et al., Computational Materials Science 2020 Vol. 184 Article 109891
Metal-semiconductor nanostructures are key objects for multifunctional electronics and optical design. We report a new interatomic potential for atomistic simulation of a ternary Si-Au-Al system. The development procedure was based on the force-matching method that allowed us to create the potential without use of experimental data at the fitting. Extensive validation including elastic, thermophysical and defect properties demonstrates a ...

Structure and Phase Transition Features of Monoclinic and Tetragonal Phases in U–Mo Alloys
Kolotova L., Gordeev I., Crystals 2020 Vol. 10 P. 515
Using molecular dynamics simulations, we studied the structural properties of orthorhombic, monoclinic, and body-centered tetragonal (bct) phases of U–Mo alloys. A sequence of shear transformations between metastable phases takes place upon doping of uranium with molybdenum from pure alpha-U: orthorhombic alpha' -> monoclinic alpha'' -> bct gamma^0 -> body-centered cubic (bcc) with doubled lattice constant gamma^s ...

Atomistic simulation of cubic and tetragonal phases of U-Mo alloy: Structure and thermodynamic properties
Starikov S. V., Kolotova L., Kuksin A. Y. et al., Journal of Nuclear Materials 2018 Vol. 499 P. 451–463
We studied structure and thermodynamic properties of cubic and tetragonal phases of pure uranium and U-Mo alloys using atomistic simulations: molecular dynamics and density functional theory. The main attention was paid to the metastable g0-phase that is formed in U-Mo alloys at low temperature. Structure of g0-phase is similar to body-centered tetragonal (bct) lattice with displacement of a ...

Спектроскопия высокого разрешения низкотемпературных фазовых переходов в метаборате меди CuB2O4
Boldyrev K., Молчанова А. Д., Оптика и спектроскопия 2019 Т. 127 № 1 С. 39–41
The linear magnetic dichroism in the crystallographically isotropic ab plane of a tetragonal CuB2O4 single crystal has been investigated by high-resolution Fourier spectroscopy at temperatures of 1.4–22 K. Magnetic phase transitions are found at T < 2.0 K and their nature is discussed. ...

Is Modernity a Third Axial Age?
Bondarenko D. M., Baskin K., NETSOL: New Trends in Social and Liberal Sciences 2019 Vol. 4 No. 2 P. 1–23
In the book where he coined the term “Axial Age”, Karl Jaspers noted that human history included both “tranquil ages” and “ages of change”. This paper begins with the observation that this oscillation between stable and transformational periods encapsulates the pattern in complexity theory by which systems oscillate between relatively long “stable states” and shorter ...

Dynamics of the Structural Transformation of Crystalline Hydrogen upon the Transition into the Conductive State under Compression
Norman G., Saitov I., Doklady Physics 2019 Vol. 64 No. 4 P. 145–149
—The structural transformation of solid hydrogen under compression along the isotherm of 100 K in the region of transition into the conductive state was studied within the density functional theory. The pressure, the pair correlation function of protons, the density of electron states, and the electrical conductivity were calculated within a range of hydrogen densities from ...

Математическое моделирование эмиссии из катодов малых размеров
Danilov V., Rudnev V., Gaydukov R. et al., М.: Научно-техническое издательство «Горячая линия – Телеком», 2014.
A new mathematical model of heat transfer in silicon field emission pointed cathode of small dimensions is constructed which permits taking its partial melting into account. This mathematical model is based on the phase field system, i.e., on a contemporary generalization of Stefan-type problems. The approach used by the authors is not purely mathematical but ...

We introduce a new method for modeling of heat transfer in the thermo-field emission nanocathode. The base of our model is the modified Stefan problem with the special conditions on the free boundary and on the tip of the cathode (Nottingham effect). We use a modification of the phase field system for the numerical simulation. ...
