The article examines the ways in which death and dying are represented in Russian cinema of the 1920s and how visual aspects and thematic frames are formed in the depiction of the dead, corpses, and wounded bodies, dying and murdered people.Tragic endings were a characteristic feature of the first Russian films released before the revolution, but for all their obsession with gloomy plots, they were not visually straight forward. The purpose of the article is to analyze how the ways of addressingthe theme of death were born in Russian cinema and how they were transformed with the advent of the revolution.
