The 'Second Shift' Is Not Why Women Avoid News
Women are more likely than men to avoid political and economic news, but the reasons for this behaviour are linked less to structural inequality or family-related stress than to personal attitudes and the emotional perception of news content. This conclusion was reached by HSE researchers after analysing data from a large-scale survey of more than 10,000 residents across 61 regions of Russia. The study findings have been published in Woman in Russian Society.

Неспецифическое положительное воздействие транскраниальной электрической стимуляции постоянным током на усвоение новых слов
Филиппова М. Г., Перикова Е. И., Blagoveshchensky E. et al., Журнал высшей нервной деятельности им. И.П. Павлова 2022 Т. 72 № 2 С. 227–232
This study aimed at systematically assessing the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on novel word learning. Using a sample of 288 healthy volunteers, we modulated tDCS stimulation regimes (anodal/cathodal/placebo), stimulated hemisphere (left/right), site (Broca/Wernicke/right-hemispheric Broca/Wernicke homologues), and assessed tDCS effects on different learning protocols: fast mapping vs. explicit encoding, with vs. without articulation. ...

Transcranial direct-current stimulation of core language areas facilitates novel word acquisition
Shtyrov Y., Perikova E., Filippova M. et al., Neurobiology of Learning and Memory 2024 Vol. 216 Article 107992
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique that can alter the state of the stimulated brain area and thereby affect neurocognitive processes and resulting behavioural performance. Previous studies using tDCS to address the language function have shown disparate results, particularly with respect to language learning and word acquisition. To fill this gap, ...

Vasilyeva M. J., Artemenko E., Knazeva V. M. et al., , in: Proceedings of the 6th Saint Petersburg Winter Workshop on Experimental Studies of Speech and Language (Night Whites 2022).: Scifiya-print, 2023.
Young children are well-known as successful word learners, which is reflected in very high rates of new word-form acquisition and efficient mastering of the mother tongue or even several languages. This ultra-rapid lexical acquisition mechanism has been dubbed “fast mapping” [FM, Carey, Bartlett 1978]. Despite many studies conducted in this field, neural underpinnings of FM ...

Identifying the Speech Production Stages in Early and Late Adulthood by Using Electroencephalography
den Hollander J., Jonkers R., Mariën P. et al., Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 2019 Vol. 13 P. 1–21
Structural changes in the brain take place throughout one’s life. Changes related to cognitive decline may delay the stages of the speech production process in the aging brain. For example, semantic memory decline and poor inhibition may delay the retrieval of a concept from the mental lexicon. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a valuable method for identifying ...
