Development Economics and Entrepreneurship: Evidence from Sub-Saharan Africa
This work presents an analysis of the development of entrepreneurship and small businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on the example of two countries: Ghana and South Africa/ At the beginning of the work, the theoretical concept of entrepreneurship in economic growth and economic development is reviewed. Further, this study explains the nature of the SME sectors, the SME landscape and the existed SME policies in the two country cases. Readers may get insight into the economic profile of Ghana and South Africa. The issues related to the role of the SME sector under structural transformation are considered. The methodological approaches applied in this study are literature review, descriptive analysis country-study comparison based on the empirical evidence and analysis of the national surveys. This work might be interesting for researchers of entrepreneurship and small business who explore the Sub-Saharan African region.
