СИНТЕЗ ЖАНРОВЫХ ФОРМ В ДИЛОГИИ М.РЕНО «ТЕЗЕЙ»
The genre originality of Mary Renault’s dilogy Theseus is determined by the features of the material which forms the basis for the plot development. The concept of the historical process development sug-gests the use of mythological material in the dilogy. The idea of renovation by destroying the old is re-vealed throughout these novels. Renewal follows destruction, the idea that manifests itself at different levels of the narrative. The novels The King Must Die and The Bull from the Sea combine features of sev-eral genres: a historical-biographical novel, a philosophical- historical novel and a mytho-poetic novel in which various mythological traditions are used syncretically as material for reconstructing initial poetic mythological archetypes. However, a comprehensive study of the way features of different genres func-tion in the novels The King Must Die and The Bull from the Sea reveals dominant properties of a philoso-phical historical novel.
