The article considers the institution of civil society, which is practically unexplored in the historical and legal literature, as consultations of assistant attorneys. The author examines the organizational and legal foundations of the functioning of the consultation of assistant attorneys in the Moscow district and its practical advisory activities in the late XIX — early XX century. On the basis of the statistical data presented in the reports of the consultation, its number, appeals to it of persons by class, occupation and type of affairs are considered. The author substantiates the importance of this institution of civil society for the poor and indigent population within the framework of ensuring the material and territorial accessibility of qualified legal assistance.
