Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

Social Integration: At the Crossroads of Knowledge and Values
The International Laboratory for Social Integration Research (ILSIR) at HSE University studies the challenges faced by vulnerable groups and explores ways to help them participate fully in everyday life. To develop effective solutions, the laboratory’s researchers combine cutting-edge methods with practical fieldwork. In this interview with the HSE News Service, Laboratory Head Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova discusses the laboratory’s work.

Hierarchical Epidemic Model on Structured Population: Diffusion Patterns and Control Policies

Computation. 2022. Vol. 10. No. 2. Article 31.
Gubar E., Taynitskiy V., Fedyanin D., Petrov I.

In the current study, we define a hierarchical epidemic model that helps to describe the
propagation of a pathogen in a clustered human population. The estimation of a novel coronavirus
spreading worldwide leads to the idea of the hierarchical structure of the epidemic process. Thus,
the propagation process is divided into three possible levels: a city, a country, and a worldwide. On
each level, the pathogen propagation process is based on the susceptible-exposed-infected-recovered
(SEIR) model. We thus formulate a modified transmission model of infected individuals between
levels. The control of the pathogen’s spread can be seen as an optimal control problem. A tradeoff
exists between the cost of active virus propagation and the design of appropriate quarantine
measures. Each level of the hierarchy is defined by its network. A series of numerical experiments
was conducted to corroborate the obtained results.

Benchmarking Synolitic Graphs for Autism Classification from Multisite Resting-State fMRI
Zaikin A., Vlasenko D., Zakharov D. et al., Diagnostics 2026 Vol. 16 No. 17 P. 1–15
Background/Objectives: Synolitic graphs (SGs) were developed for task-based fMRI, where edge weights encode the discriminative power of pairwise regional features; whether similar information can be recovered from resting-state data was untested. We benchmarked SGs for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) classification using the multisite ABIDE-I dataset (871 subjects: 403 subjects with ASD, 468 typical controls; 17 sites; CC200 atlas). Methods: Using ...

Vlassov V., The Lancet Public Health 2026 Vol. 11 No. 9 P. e604–e629
Background Understanding the size, gender composition, and cadre mix of the health workforce and how it has evolved across time and locations can inform policies for planning, recruitment, training, and retention of human resources for health (HRH), and improvement of access to the health-care workforce among populations. Using comparable and standardised data sources, we aim to ...

Shartova N., Mironova E., Geo Journal 2026 Vol. 91 Article 78
The historical timeline of urban development profoundly shapes the contemporary form and functionality of cities. Traditionally, cities were planned with limited consideration for the promotion of a healthy urban environment. Razo C., DeCleene N., Johnson C. et al., JAMA - Journal of the American Medical Association 2026 Vol. 336 No. 8 P. 673–696
Importance  Elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of premature death worldwide. Assessing the LDL-C–related burden is critical for guiding prevention and treatment strategies. Objectives  To estimate the global, regional, and national burden of ischemic heart disease and ischemic stroke attributable to elevated LDL-C (relative to 35-54 mg/dL) from ...

Reach: Recognising episodes of acute complexity in health: a predictive older patient prioritisation machine learning model
Maghsoohi A., Pavlov V., Rouse P. et al., Health Care Management Science 2026 Vol. 29 Article 37
As the numbers of older people (65 +) rise globally, the pressure on acute hospitals to provide efficient and effective care while addressing resource inequities increases. In this study we introduce Recognising Episodes of Acute Complexity in Health (REACH), a novel Automatic Machine Learning (AutoML)-based predictive model that prioritises older patients and assigns them to complex ...
