Digital transformation that is taking place in modern knowledge societies cannot leave general education system on the sidelines. The developing digital environment shapes its own requirements to the key elements of school system.
The analytical paper presents results of the schools’ digital renewal process assessment in Russian context. The opportunities provided by digital technologies and the barriers to their use in the educational process are examined. Three data sources were used for the study: surveys of schoolchildren parents and school teachers conducted as part of the Monitoring of the education markets and organizations in 2020/2021, data from Federal Statistical Observation (FSN) and survey data from Monitoring of digital transformation of schools in 2020/2021.
It is revealed that modern Russian schools are situated at different stages toward their digital transformation. Through the detailed description of the digital renewal of schools more accurate forecasting of their further development is possible.
